When it comes to electric scooters, weight matters, especially if you plan to use yours for commuting in cities. This often involves situations where you have to carry the e-scooter e.g. when there are stairs or when you want to take it on a bus or train. Once you arrive at your destination, you may also need to carry it to your office or apartment, since leaving your precious electric scooter in a public bicycle parking space for too long is not recommended. Therefore, choosing a lightweight electric scooter can make your daily commute much easier and more convenient.

Why is the weight of an electric scooter so important?
An electric scooter’s weight greatly impacts many factors, such as portability, stability and battery life. Let´s look at the most important advantages and disadvantages of a lightweight electric scooter.
Advantages of a lightweight electric scooter:
- Portability: A lightweight electric scooter is easier to transport and carry, making it more convenient for commuting or travelling.
- Manoeuvrability: A lighter scooter can be easier to manoeuvre, making navigating through traffic and tight spaces easier.
- Battery Life: A lighter scooter can have a longer battery life, requiring less energy to move and maintain speed.
- Affordability: Lightweight electric scooters are often less expensive than heavier models, making them more accessible to a wider range of consumers.
Disadvantages of a lightweight electric scooter:
- Stability: A lightweight scooter can be less stable, especially at higher speeds, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Durability: A lightweight scooter may not be as durable as a heavier model, as it may be made of lighter, less durable materials.
- Speed: A lightweight scooter may not be able to reach higher speeds as easily as a heavier model, which can limit its usefulness for longer commutes or travel.
- Weight Capacity: A lightweight scooter may not be able to support as much weight as a heavier model, limiting its usability for larger riders or carrying heavier loads.
With this in mind, we have put in the effort to identify seven electric scooters that are super lightweight but still offer decent performance and build quality. These models have been carefully selected to strike a balance between weight and performance, ensuring a comfortable and convenient ride for your daily commute.
Inokim Light 2
The Inokim series, including the previously reviewed Inokim Quick 4, has consistently impressed us with its exceptional performance and sleek designs. While the Quick 4 is a solid performer, the Inokim Light 2 stands out as a perfect lightweight city scooter with a stylish design (available in five colors: black, white, orange, green, and blue!). Weighing only 30 lbs, it qualifies as a lightweight scooter, yet still boasts a respectable top speed of 21kmh and a range of 20 miles, supported by its 350W and 36V 10.4Ah battery. The 8.5×2″ air-filled tires ensure a comfortable ride to your destination. Like all Inokim scooters, we particularly appreciate the build quality and overall look of the Light 2.
Fluid Mosquito
The Fluid Mosquito is the most expensive electric scooter on our list, and for good reason. With a top speed of 25mph and a range of 22 miles provided by a 500W and 48V 9.6Ah battery, front and rear suspension, and an electric horn, this scooter packs a lot of features into its mere 29 lbs! We believe it’s the best portable electric scooter in 2023. Equipped with two solid tires, you don’t have to worry about flats. The bright front and rear LED lights, along with lateral reflectors, ensure that you can see well and be seen by others. The triple braking system includes an electric “throttle” brake that also recharges your battery on the go, making the Mosquito a smart and efficient choice.
Fluid Cityrider
The Fluid Cityrider is the ideal electric scooter for inner-city rides, with its portable, cool matte-black design and an eye-catching wooden deck that weighs only 28 lbs. Its 36V 350W motor provides decent acceleration and top speed of 18mph. At the same time, the 10Ah battery offers an approximate range of 15 miles per charge, ensuring you can reach your destination quickly without running out of battery. One of our favourite features on this scooter are the integrated turn signals, which make it a particularly safe choice for navigating dense inner-city traffic. The Cityrider also has an IP55 waterproof rating, which means it can handle some riding in the rain (although we wouldn’t recommend it simply for safety considerations). The solid honeycomb tires provide a smooth ride while ensuring you won’t have any issues with flat tires.
Rival Electric Scooter
The ultra-light Rival Electric Scooter from GoTrax, weighing in at just 27 lbs, is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a lightweight electric scooter that won’t break the bank. With a 250W motor, it has a top speed of 15.5 mph and a range of 12 miles on a single charge, which is more than enough for most inner-city trips. While it doesn’t come with many bells and whistles, it has a solid build quality, making it an excellent value for money. The 8.5-inch air-filled tires provide a smooth ride, and its sleek design makes it a good option for anyone looking for a stylish ride.
XR Ultra Electric Scooter
The XR Electric Scooter is slightly more expensive than the Rival Electric Scooter, but it comes with a stronger 300W motor and a better range of 16 miles thanks to the superior 36V 7.0 Ah battery. Like the Rival, it has a top speed of 15mph, and while there is no extra suspension, the 8.5 air-filled tires provide a smooth ride. This is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a portable and lightweight mobility solution within dense city traffic or as a second electric scooter in your arsenal if you don’t want to carry around your heavy one. It has an IP54 waterproof rating, which is always convenient to have, and is offered in black and grey.
GXL V2 Electric Scooter
At only 26 lbs, the GXL V2 Electric Scooter is another great option for an electric scooter on our list. It features a 250W motor and a 36V 5.2Ah battery, providing a top speed of 15 mph and a range of 12 miles, which should be sufficient for most inner-city trips. The GXL V2 is the most affordable model on our list and is perfect for riders looking to enter the world of electric scootering. While it is the cheapest electric scooter on our list, the build quality is decent, and GoTrax provides a 1-year warranty that can even be extended to 2 years with an additional charge, as they do with all of their products.
Nanrobot X4 Electric Scooter
Comparable to the Fluid Mosquito, the Nanrobot X4 is the heaviest on our list at 33lbs, but still a lightweight with impressive stats. It features a 500W rear-mounted motor and a 48V 10.4Ah lithium battery that provides a top speed of 22mph and a range of 25 miles. The 8-inch pneumatic tires offer excellent shock absorption on all terrains. One great feature of this scooter is that the display is mounted on the right handlebar, allowing for easy access to all controls while in motion.
Final Thoughts
Weight is an important consideration when buying an electric scooter. At the end of the day, the advantages and disadvantages of a lightweight electric scooter must meet the rider’s specific needs and preferences. While a lightweight e-scooter can be more convenient and affordable, it may also have limitations in terms of performance, stability, durability, and weight capacity.
