Self-balancing scooters rose to prominence a few years ago, and after the hype died down they quickly became known for their low quality materials and unreliable riding experience. Halo, a U.S. based company, has often produced what is considered by many as the best hoverboards. The Halo Go 2 is one of their hoverboards, a brightly colored chrome finished board that has been a financial success for Halo. So what do we think of it?

Quick Look
The Halo Go 2 is a product of Halo Board, so you can be sure that it has a high quality design, from the Mirror Chrome finish to the shatter resistant shell. The self-balancing scooter has Never-Flat tires, and a top speed of 9mph, only slightly lower than the Halo Rover’s 10mph. Halo has provided their board with a lot of additional features that make it more than just a knock-off hoverboard, such as the Ride-Assist technology and the shatter resistant casing. They also went the extra mile and got the board UL certified with UL 2272 and UL 2271 certifications. In terms of pricing the board can be quite expensive when Halo haven’t got a deal going, which is more often than you’d think, however we think the specs are leagues better than the vast majority of the hoverboards out there at the moment.

Features
Halo has many of the same features that the Halo Rover has, such as the bluetooth speakers integrated into the board, they can be found on the underside of the board.
Another feature that Halo is implementing on all of their hoverboards are the UL certifications. UL stands for ‘Underwriters Laboratories’ and has been around for over a century, specifying in product safety testing. They produce among other things safety certifications specifically for hoverboards and self balancing scooters. The certifications the Halo Go 2 has are the UL2271 and the UL2272, these basically mean the hoverboard is safe to ride!
Halo has a standard ‘Ride-Assist’ technology on all of their hoverboards, this is a feature which allows the Halo Go 2 to remain in a balancing position at all times whenever it is on!
The Halo Go 2 comes with 2 indicator lights which in total have 3 different meanings:
- Warning Indicator Light: A red light which will turn on when there’s an issue with the board.
- Balance Indicator Light: this light is on the same LED as the Warning Indicator Light, it is a green light which turns on when the scooter is in balance mode.
- Battery Status Indicator Light: A green which will turn on when the board is on.
- 3 Design and Build Quality
It comes with a set of LED headlights which are helpful for low lights, however in our opinion this board should be exclusively ridden indoors, if you’re looking for an outdoor board you should check out the previously mentioned Halo Rover.
The Halo Go 2 has an outer shell that covers almost all of the board. Halo describe it as impact resistant, and we would agree, any kind of reasonable impact can be withstood by this shatter resistant shell, meaning crashes into walls or sidewalks.
As mentioned previously this board stands out with its Mirror Chrome finish, which comes in multiple different colours such as blue, pink and gold. This is great if you want a toy for your child that they’ll love and that stands out! If you’re looking for more electric toys for children check best electric scooters for kids.
The board also comes with a rubber foot matt to help with friction, so you’ll stand firmly on the hoverboard.
The Go 2 can carry up to 260 lbs, when you think about it this is a lot for something that is a relatively small vehicle, and also goes to show that this can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Performance and Range
The battery is a Samsung Lithium-ion battery, which provides a 500 Watt electric motor. This allows the scooter to go up to an impressive 9pmh, and it has a range of 8 miles. The battery lasts for 1.5-2 hours, which is no small feat, most hoverboards have a battery which would last about half that time, which in our opinion is a testament to the high quality aspects of the Halo Go 2.
Halo advertises this specific hoverboard as providing a super smooth ride, which, in our opinion, is definitely true given its 6.5” Never-Flat tires. These things are sturdy without coming across as bulky, and are covered with shatter resistant casing and rubber guards specifically covering the wheels, which are intended for protection from any small crashes.
What we like about the Halo Go 2
- UL Certified Battery -It’s a great showcase of the legitimacy of the hoverboard, rather than a knock off that blows up while you’re riding it!
- Chrome Finish – This is a personal preference, and something that I think many people will love. The bright colours and the polished chrome finish really make the board stand out.
- Ride-Assist – Halo has taken into account the laughable learning curve when it comes to standing on a self-balancing scooter for the first time, and has presented a helpful solution!
What we don’t like about the Halo Go 2
- Tendency to scratch – We have heard multiple accounts of the mirror finish getting easily scratched up when riding, and upon personal experience we can see that being an annoyance if you’re looking for something with a high-end look.
Final Thoughts
In terms of hoverboards, the Halo Go 2 is one of the best in the business, it’s had a lot of effort put into it. When everything is brought together it works really well, it was a comfortable ride, with the Ride-Assist and the responsiveness giving me my best ride.
I’d like to repeat that I personally don’t think this should be taken very far from any indoor environment, and when riding it outside it’s performance dropped significantly. But assuming it stays on flat surfaces, this hoverboard gets two thumbs up!
Finally, this is an expensive purchase, but I’d consider the Halo board high in value and high in price, as you get a great board at the pricier end of the hoverboard spectrum. However Halo often do good deals on their products, and at the time of writing this the Halo Go 2 is at almost a third of its original price!
