How we Chose the Best Electric Skateboard for Kids
Here’s a few things that we focused our search on:
Size: We made sure that we weren’t dealing with 43 inch longboards but instead have smaller, lighter and more manageable boards that kids and teens can easily ride and take around with them.
Sensible Top Speed: A lot of kids tend to lack the fear that many adults have when it comes to thrill seeking. If an electric skateboard can travel 25 mph under its own power then you can be sure that your kids will get it to 25 mph! That’s why we’ve chosen e-skateboards that have a sensible top speed. This will keep them safe but still give them a brilliantly fun experience.
Durable: This is important for any skateboard or longboard, but especially so if your kids are going to be using it. The boards on this list are all durable and should be able to last a while.
Acton Blink Lite V2
The Acton Blink Lite V2 is a perfect mini electric skateboard for kids and teens. It’s designed to be a fun and playful electric skateboard that is perfect for riding around town and school. The entire board weighs only 7.7 lbs and can hold a maximum rider weight of 130 lbs. This means that it is officially the world’s lightest electric skateboard that’s aimed at teens and kids. This makes it perfect for your child to able to carry around with them and it even makes a great option for commuting to school or college.
The Blink Lite V2 uses a 250 W hub motor that is powered by a 25.5V 2.2Ah battery. This means you will get about 5 miles range from it and a top speed of around 10 mph. Not the greatest stats in comparison to many other boards but this should be ideal for your kids.
It’s controlled by a bluetooth remote control which is super simple to use and allows the rider to go forward or backwards with just the push or a lever.
Other features include:
- LED safety lights that are built into the frame of the board. These make the rider highly visible to traffic, pedestrians and even at night. A great feature if safety is high on your list of priorities.
- Great braking system
- Can fully recharge in less than 2 hours
Overall, the Acton Blink Lite V2 is a perfect motorized skateboard if you’re looking for something to help your kids get a quick and fun commute or just to give them something to ride around town on. Acton Blink S2
Another e-board from Acton, this time the Blink S2. This is an upgrade of the Acton Blink Lite V2 that we just reviewed. It has similar styling and is virtually the same size as its smaller brother. But where the S2 is different is in its performance.
The Blink S2 uses a pair of hub motors to help it reach a top speed of 18 mph. It also features an upgraded battery that gives the rider a maximum range of 14 miles! All of this is included in a board that only weighs 14 lbs so it’s still light enough for your child to easily take it around with them. The Blink S2 also fully charges in only 1.5 hours due to its top of the line lithium ion batteries.
Other features include:
- 3 riding modes perfect for every situation and every level of experience.
- Fully equipped with LED lights to ensure that your kids are safe and seen to traffic and other pedestrians.
- A hill climb of 20% thanks to the high power dual motors.
Overall, the Blink S2 is better than the Lite V2 in pretty much every way. It’s also a lot more expensive. If you’re looking for one of the best electric skateboards on the market that would be ideal for older children then this might be it. If you’re happy with a more basic version then the Lite V2 is the way to go.

Swagtron Swagboard NG-1
Read our full Swagtron Swagboard NG-1 Review for a more in depth look at this electric skateboard.
The Swagtron Swagboard NG-1 is one of the best known electric longboards around today. It’s built a reputation for being a fast, fun skateboard that doesn’t break the bank. It made it onto our list of best electric skateboards under $300 along with the Acton Blink.
We’ve reviewed a lot of other Swagtron products here on AltRiders, such as the Swagtron Swagger electric scooter and all of the reviews have very similar themes. Swagtron tend to make very well priced, feature heavy products that would normally cost a lot more. They sometimes have problems with build quality, but that’s a tradeoff you’d expect to make for the heavily reduced price.
The Swagboard is no different. It has a maple wood deck with a premium grip tape that gives riders a lot of traction whilst riding. The board feels strong and sturdy and we’d expect the wood to be able to withstand quite a beating. The board can support riders up to 176 lbs so it should be fine for most kids.
For the electronic side of this motorised skateboard, the Swagboard features a 24V Li-on FE battery and Swagtron say it has a battery management system that allows for greater management of the battery for improved energy efficiency. This can help it reach a top speed of 11 mph and up to 10 miles on a single charge. These stats are pretty good and the top speed is just about right for kids and younger teens, but in practice you’ll be getting a lot less than 10 miles on a single charge. Expect more like 5 miles.
The Swagboard is controlled by a wireless LED remote that can control the speed, braking and even the built in cruise control. The remote also shows the speed and the battery status so it’s easy for your kids to keep track of everything they need right in the palm of their hand.
Other features include:
- A SentryShield battery technology to help keep the batteries and your kids safe from damage.
- Two ergonomic grips built into the board
- An included wrist strap on the remote control so you never lose it and have to replace it
Overall, the Swagboard is a good e-skateboard. It’s generally sold for less $200 so could make a perfect introductory board. If Swagtron managed to fix some of the battery range issues then we think that the Swagboard could be one of the best electric longboards on the list, but right now it falls just behind the rest. Still a good board and worth your money, as it’s so cheap, but we feel like the other boards on the list are just that bit better.

Swagtron Swagboard Spectra
If you’re looking for an e-skateboard that’s a bit more reliable than the Swagboard NG-1 with some really interesting and unique features, then the upgrade, the Swagboard Spectra should be exactly what you’re looking for.
One of the major features that the Swagboard Spectra is offering is a very interesting AI riding system. The board doesn’t have any handheld controls, it’s fully controlled by your body movements. The AI aspect means that there is an artificial intelligence system built into the board that will learn and adapt to the way you ride.
The Spectra offers a very reasonable set of specs, having a top speed of 15 mph and a max range of 12 miles per charge. This is what we think to be around the sweet spot for a children’s or young teen’s electric skateboard. It also features a regenerative braking system that helps to top up the battery every time you brake.
The board is also able to be controlled through a mobile app. This can control your speed, it can lock the board for you and you can even share photos and more. On the app you can also choose between 1 of 3 modes. From a simple beginner mode to get you riding hands free to a pro mode where you can really open it up.
Other features include:
- Climb hills of up to 15%
- LED battery indicators on the board itself
- Supports riders up to 187 lbs
This is one of the most interesting and innovative electric skateboards we’ve seen in a while. It has a bunch of great little features that really make it stand out. The riding style is unique and after a few rides becomes incredibly intuitive and a lot of fun! Whilst this does cost quite a bit more than the NG-1 we think that the control system is worth the money by itself as it’s such a unique and fun way to ride.
If you’re looking for a great example of a fun and unique gadget that none of your kids friends are going to have, then this is exactly that! I’d highly recommend you having a go as well as the controls make it incredibly good fun.
We’ve also reviewed many other Swagtron products, such as the Swagtron Swagger electric scooter and the Swagcycle.

Yuneec E-Go 2
The last board on our list is the Yuneec E-Go 2. This cheap electric skateboard is made by the same people that make a very popular brand of drone. Using this knowledge they’ve made a very capable electric skateboard, that even made it onto our list of the best electric skateboards under $1000.
The Yuneec has a very stylish and aesthetically pleasing look. It comes in 3 colors (pink, blue and green) and has a familiar kicktail shape that really helps with control and even tricks.
The E-G02 is capable of going up to 15 mph, but like all electric personal transportation this will be very dependant on the rider, condition and terrain. Expect around 15 mph if your child or teen is riding. The maximum range that the skateboard can reach is also affected by conditions and wight but the Yuneec will generally be able to reach a total of 18 miles on a single charge, which is very impressive.
The Yuneec also has 2 riding modes that allows you extra control and will even help save a bit of battery life.
Yuneec have even create a mobile app that will connect to your skateboard and let you keep track of your stats and battery levels. This is a great little app that is genuinely very useful. It’s also perfect for anyone that wants to keep everything on their phones rather than having to have multiple additional ways of tracking themselves. I can imagine a lot of kids nowadays will be very happy about the mobile app inclusion.
Other features include:
- Positive braking system
- Great value for money
- Belt driven motor
Overall, the Yuneec is a good purchase if you’re looking for a good entry level electric skateboard that has that little bit extra. It’s well built, has some nice features, performs well and would make a great present.

Safety Gear
Skateboarding and electric skateboarding involves a wooden plank with wheels reaching potentially very high speeds with the possibility of performing tricks on streets and in skate parks. It doesn’t matter if your children are experienced riders or novices learning the basics; sooner or later, they’re going to fall.
Safety gear is there to protect those vital points when the inevitable happens.
Helmets
It’s important to wear a properly fitted helmet to protect your head from slamming against the ground or walls. This is the most important piece of safety equipment and we highly recommend you use one.
