If you’re looking for a unique gift, something a little different and memorable (or if you want something to add to your christmas list) then an electric scooter is the perfect option!
In this guide we’ll take you through everything you need to know about kids electric scooters and give you our opinion of the best electric scooters for kids on the market today.
A normal kick scooter is in itself a good present, but when you add an electric motor you get something that’s more interesting, more functional and generally a whole lot more fun for everyone. An electric scooter for your child can give them a fulfilling sense of freedom, help them learn responsibility and offer lessons and thrills through learning and controlling a basic form of personal transport.

Are Electric Scooters Safe for Kids?
Short answer – Yes if ridden with care and safety precautions are taken.
Long answer – Anything where a child will be travelling at relatively high speeds has an inherent danger and electric scooters are no different. They should generally be safe, but with the additional speed and controls that electric scooters offer there are some potential dangers. However, with careful guidance and being taught to respect the scooter and those potential dangers, most children will have no problems and will be able to safely ride any electric scooter.
We’d also recommend to take extra precautions to ensure if accidents do happen then your child will be as safe as possible.
Scooter Helmets for Kids – A helmet is the first piece of equipment we would recommend and think it’s basically a necessity. There are a range of very good helmets on the market and think that will alleviate most of the force of any knock to the head.

Best Electric Scooters for Kids
Razor E300
Read our full Razor E300 Review for a much more in depth look at the pros and cons of this electric scooter.
The Razor E300 is sort of a mixture between a kids scooter and an adult scooter. It has a maximum rider weight of 220 lbs and is just as comfortable for a child to ride as it is a fully grown adult. It has a maximum speed of 15 mph and up to 40 minutes of continual use. The E300 uses a chain driven motor and a twist grip acceleration control with a hand operated rear brake. It has a super sized deck and extra wide pneumatic tires or extra comfort and control.
What we like about the Razor E300 is it’s value for money. Most Razor products are great value for money and we think that their brand is one of the best in the electric scooter space. You can easily find this scooter for less than $200 dollars and yet it still has a great top speed and give you or your kids plenty of time to have a lot of fun on it. The beefy tires and wide deck also make it surprisingly good off road so it will work in the park just as well as on tarmac. Despite it not being the best looking scooter, we’d still highly recommend it due to it being inexpensive, fun and fairly practical. We generally think this is the best Razor electric scooter.
The Razor E300 also made it onto our list of the best electric scooters for adults.

Razor E125
The Razor E125 is like the scaled down version of the E300 we mentioned above. It’s aimed more towards children, rather than both adults and kids, and is optimised for riders of 8 years old and above. It’s the upgraded version of the E100 that was one of the best rated electric scooters available. The E125 takes the best parts of the E100 and builds upon them. It has a 120 lb weight limit and can reach speeds of 10 mph. The battery provides up to 40 minutes of continual use and is controlled with a twist grip throttle. It weighs a little over 30 lbs so is very manageable for younger children. The front tire of the E125 is a little larger than the back which leads to a smoother and more comfortable riding experience.
The Razor E125 is feature packed and provides great value for money. Despite a rather long charge time of around 8 hours, the Razor E125 is still a fantastic little scooter that would make a great first electric scooter for your kids. It also comes in a range of colors, including navy, pink and silver. It’s incredibly accessible, is super easy to ride and control and is a lot of fun.

Razor Pocket Mod Electric Scooter
The Razor Pocket Mod range of electric scooters provide rather unique and striking e-scooters aimed at kids. There are many models, some being typical “girls” scooters and others being “boys” scooters.
The first thing you’ll notice is that the scooters look great. They have a vintage style that’s reminiscent of a classic Vespa. The style isn’t purely aesthetic either, there are a few small features that are taken from proper motorised scooters. For example, the seat lifts up and provides an area for storage, just like the scaled up adult version it’s based on. These scooters will hit speeds of 15 mph and the battery can last around 40 minutes of continual use. They have a chain driven electric motor that uses a twist grip acceleration control. There’s also hand operated brakes and large, 12 inch pneumatic tires. The Pocket Mod also features a neat little kick stand for storage.
Without a doubt the best thing about the Pocket Mod series of electric scooters is the way they look. They ooze charm and really make it feel like your child is riding a classic Vespa or something similar. The different models give you plenty of options, there’s the classic neutral black or white models that look fantastic and then there are the colored models for a more personal feel. Not only this, but they are well priced, perform well and have a good range of features.

Super Turbo 1000 Watt Elite 36V Electric Scooter
The Super Turbo 1000 Elite is a seated scooter manufactured by a California based company called Super Cycles and Scooters LLC, and we think it could work for older children and teens. This isn’t an electric scooter we’d recommend for your 6 year old. The 1000 Watt 36V motor runs at a speed of 3000rpm, which the main reason this scooter can go at a very impressive top speed of 27mph. This product is great for all-terrain fun, due to its wide 10.5” tires and dual rear adjustable shocks, giving it a smooth ride. This means you can have fun with this on or off road and even use it for the morning commute. It has many removable parts for easy part replacement, for example the seat is removable if you prefer to be standing.
This e-scooter has a heavy duty chain, an LED headlight for night rides and front and rear disk brakes. We’d recommend this scooter for anyone that feels they need one that can carry a heavy weight, as it has a weight capacity of 300lbs. An interesting feature is the Econo/Turbo mode, a button that allows you to decide what type of ride you want; Econo for longer journeys and Turbo for speed.
Overall, this is an impressive, powerful scooter that has clearly had a lot of work put into it. It will work well with steep hills due to good acceleration and a powerful motor, and is great for carrying heavier weights with its 300 lbs limit. This is perfect if you’re looking for a smooth, comfortable, seated scooter that is incredibly versatile. We think that you’ll probably end up having as much fun as the kids with this one.

Swagtron Swagger
We’ve written an in-depth Swagtron Swagger review if you’d like more information on the e-scooter.
If you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful scooter that is also feature packed you can’t go wrong with the Swagtron Swagger Electric Scooter. It can do between 4 – 15 miles on a single charge depending on the type of journey and can reach speeds of around 15 mph. The Swagger features a carbon fibre frame that can hold up to 250 lbs and the charge time is 1.5 hours! It has an LED headlight for visibility and built in cruise control for those simple journeys to the park and back. There is a built in digital crystal display that shows speed, distance and battery life. This scooter works well for adults and children and the suggested minimum rider height is 4’3”. There are a few problems, for example, its suspension could be better, as bumpier roads become a problem, both in terms of comfort and durability. Also it may struggle on some intense uphill journeys, but this is a problem for many electric scooters.
At the end of the day this is for those who are looking for a good mid range scooter, it has great specs for a scooter at this price range and due to that we can’t fault it. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, but feature packed, electric scooter for you or your kids.

GoTrax Glider
The GoTrax Glider is an electric scooter designed for both kids and adults. It’s good looking with additional features such as a small display screen to show battery life and speed and a front facing LED headlight. It has a maximum rider weight of 264 lbs and can comfortably accommodate riders up to 6 ft 5 inches as well as children as young as 8. The top speed is 17 mph and it has roughly a 9 mile range which should be more than enough performance for children of any range. The GoGtrax Glider also has a two separate braking systems for additional safety. One is a hand controlled brake and the other is a foot activated slowing system that similar to traditional kick scooters for backup. It can even be folded down for easy transport or storage.
For the amount of features that are included, this e-scooter can be found at very reasonable prices. We love that it can be folded up and other features like the headlight to make sure the rider can be seen and can see at night. We wish the battery could withstand more charging cycles as people have reported it losing power after a few months of use but for the features and performance at such a great price, we really can’t complain. This is definitely one of the best electric stand up scooters for kids on the market.
