3 Wheel Electric Scooter Benefits
Riding a three wheeler is quite a unique feeling. The 3 wheels provide an easier and more stable ride than regular two wheel scooters. They generally feel like a 4 wheel scooter but have the manoeuvrability and turning circle of a 2 wheeler. They also generally have a lightweight, sleeker design than a 4 wheel alternative but manage to provide just as much space. 3 wheelers tend to come in a little cheaper than comparative 4 wheel mobility scooters as well, so that’s nice.

Cycleboard Electric Scooters

We’ll start with one of our favorite new 3 wheel electric scooters, the stand up 3 wheeler – CycleBoard. This started life as a Kickstarter project where is managed to raise $147,404 from 184 backer. Ever since then it’s been full speed ahead as Cycleboard have managed to release 5 new version in the last 3 years, including a dedicated off road alternative with big chunky wheels and better traction.
For this feature we’ll look at the Cycleboard products as a whole. There are versions for basically everyone, going from a lower end, cheaper model, the Sport, that comes in at less than $800 up to a beefy, ‘workhorse’ in the Transport model that is aimed at carrying heavy loads for long distances (but still at a relatively high top speed of 18mph) at $2,600. Here’s a great video demonstrating their lineup:
What we love about the Cycleboard is the fact that it’s designed in such a way that allows you to basically ‘carve’ your way around. Carving a is technique used in longboarding where the rider will lean left and right to move the board in an ‘S’ pattern. This is super fun, feels amazing and generally helps control the board. With the Cycleboard you get a very similar feeling and hitting sharp corners by leaning your body whilst knowing that you’re on one of the most stable e-scooters out there is one of the most uniquely brilliant feelings you can feel on an electric scooter. Whilst these scooters are not perfect and people have reported some problems, they are one of the most innovative 3 wheel scooters out there right now and for that we have decided to feature them in the first position on this list!

TopMate ES31 Electric Foldable Tricycle Scooter
As you can tell from the name and the photo, the TopMate Electric Foldable Trike is one of the most distinctive looking electric trikes on the market. It’s USP is that it is a lightweight, foldable electric trike that can easily fold up and be taken with you in the back of your car.
The TopMate ES31 weighs a total of 31lbs (14kg) which means it’s able to be lifted with one hand. It has a super simple folding mechanism where the main frame folds together and the seat folds into that to give a very portable machine. Despite its small size and fairly simple design it is constructed from an aviation grade aluminum alloy which gives it a lot of strength and can carry riders who weigh up to 220lbs (100kg).
The performance is also very good on paper. It has 3 speed settings of 4mph, 7.5mph and 13.5mph. The first two are ideal if you’re looking to casually ride along the seafront or through the park to enjoy the scenery. The third manages to add a bit of power into the mix and gives you a decent top speed that can quickly eat up the miles. Speaking of eating up the miles, this trike has a max range of around 18.5 miles (30 km) being powered from a 18.65kwh lithium battery.
Overall, this is a great little scooter if you’re looking for a simple, lightweight method of enjoying your travels. It perfect for taking in your car and can even be taken on some airlines. Whilst this is great for people of any age, it’s absolutely idea for the older generation looking for a lightweight method of getting around.

Glion SNAPnGO
Glion are the company behind on of our favorite electric scooters for adults, the Glion Dolly. So, we were very interested when we saw the Glion SNAPnGO. This is a travel mobility scooter that is aimed at anyone with walking difficulties that wants a simple, portable, 3 wheeled mobility scooter that you can take pretty much anywhere.
The main feature of the SNAPnGO is the folding and unfolding ability. This is incredibly simple and in two movements you can be ready to go. The first thing you need to do is unfold the scooter and snap the handlebars into place. They are held there with a clip that’s very visibly strong. The next step is to insert the seat into position. And that’s it. A full mobility scooter straight out of your car in seconds.
As it’s a Glion product you can be sure that the build is solid. Just like the Glion Dolly the SNAPnGo uses an aircraft grade aluminum frame and smooth-riding honeycomb never-flat tires. It also includes some nice little extras, like front and rear LED lights so you’re able to see and be seen at night and simple electric braking and speed thumb controls.
The Glion SNAPnGO uses a detachable 6.4Ah lithium-ion battery pack that meets the FAA requirements for airline travel and give you around 15 miles on a full charge.
Overall, the Glion SNAPnGO is one of the best rated and most versatile 3 wheel mobility scooters on the market right now. It uses all of the best bits of the Glion Dolly but has a laser sharp focus on what it wants to achieve and it achieves it brilliantly well. The only real negative is the price as it’s not cheap, but can you put a price on your freedom?

Travel Pro Premium 3 Wheel Electric Mobility Scooter
Now onto the more traditional 3 wheel electric scooters. Here we have the best of the classic 3 wheel mobility scooters. This is the Travel Pro by Pride, it’s a traditional looking model and comes in at a very reasonable price. It has a top speed of 4mph, a range of 6.3 miles and can hold up to 275lbs (125kg). As it’s a 3 wheeler is has a very sharp turning circle which makes it very maneuverable whilst maintaining stability.
From the name you may have guessed that this scooter is ideal for travel. It can be broken down into 5 separate parts with the heaviest being 27.5 lbs. These pieces are then very simple to transport in an averaged sized car. Whilst it isn’t as convenient or as simple as the Glion SNAPnGO it is still one of the easiest assemblies/disassemblies we know of. It is also over $1,000 cheaper than the Glion so if you’re looking for a more budget friendly option then this is it.
Overall, the Travel Pro does everything you’d expect, it’s quiet, fun and easy to ride. It’s well built and proves a smooth comfortable experience. Whilst it isn’t the most convenient and is lacking in a few feature departments it makes up for that with the very reasonable price.

EW-19 Sporty Mobility Scooter
If you’re looking for something a little more exciting than the Travel Pro we mentioned previously then the EW-19 Sporty is just the thing you need. Whilst technically it is classed as a mobility scooter it can be so much more than that. As a 3 wheeled mobility trike it offers everything you would expect. It has a comfortable, removable seat, a good amount of storage capacity in the rear basket and it has a simple, easy transport mechanism with the folding handlebars. But unlike many other mobility scooters this one can be used for its performance as well.
It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 15 mph and can get around about 20 miles from a single charge. It has 3 speed settings and offers a large, clear (although simple) visual feedback to show battery levels etc. It even has a large LED head light to ensure you can see where you’re going in darker conditions.
I think the best way to think of this is if you’re looking for a mobility scooter and in your youth you were a motor bike rider then this is going to be right up your street. It also has a very reasonable price as it regularly comes in at under $1,000. Not many scooters with this type of performance and versatility can say the same.

Three Wheel Electric Scooters for Kids
Swagtron Cali Drift
We’ve featured and reviewed a lot of Swagtron products on AltRiders now and there is always a consistent theme throughout. They are generally good products, sometimes quite unique, that will do a good job at filling a niche at very good prices. But sometimes they don’t quite reach the quality that we would hope. And yet again this is exactly what the Swagtron Cali Drift has done.
The Cali Drift is a 3 wheel stand up electric scooter that is aimed at kids (and adults). It’s most similar to the Cycleboard in that it can tilt when turning whilst still maintaining the stability from the two front wheels. But it doesn’t quite have the quality of the Cycleboard and definitely doesn’t have the price tag.
The Cali Drift has a 250W motor that can help it reach top speeds of 15.5mph and a lithium-ion battery that helps it reach about 9 miles on a full charge. A lot of these numbers will be very dependant on the terrain, slope of the road and the rider so expect to reach these numbers in almost ideal circumstances. It has a foldable set of handlebars for easy transport and storage and also has a decent set of brakes, both handlebar brakes and a traditional kick scooter foot brake.
Overall, this is an ideal present if you have an adventurous child and don’t want to fork out for the pricey Cycleboard. It has a good build with mostly solid construction, the design is great and will definitely appeal to a more youthful audience and the speed and acceleration are exactly what you’d expect and will definitely satisfy the adrenaline junkie within. However, there are a few problems, there is no suspension and this causes the ride to be quite rough, maybe not as much of a problem for younger children but still something to note. It also has a very large turning radius and doesn’t feel as responsive as the Cycleboard. We also recommend applying some loctite to the screws as many people have had trouble with the screws falling out. If these problems don’t phase you then you’ll be left with a very affordable, fun and individual stand up three wheel electric scooter.
