Electric skateboards are becoming more and more popular every year. With that comes more companies looking to create their own skateboards trying to be the next Boosted Board. What this also means is that the choice of which electric skateboard you should buy becomes increasingly difficult to decide on as the market becomes more and more saturated by great and poor skateboards alike. Unfortunately there are quite a few very poor examples of electric skateboards out there that are certainly not worth you money, so you do have to be careful with what you buy.
Well, we’re here to help, though. We’ve got a series of posts that break down the problem into price categories.
Today we’ll look at some of the best cheap electric skateboards that you can buy for less than $300.
At this price range you’ll be getting a decent entry level esk8 (electric skateboard). So make sure to manage your expectations as at this price you definitely won’t be getting something that matches the latest Boosted Board.
For $300 you can expect decent performance, a good build quality and a moderate rider weight. So, let’s begin with the first of our choices.

10. Swagtron Swagboard NG-1
Check out our full Swagtron Swagboard review for a much deeper look into the board.
The Swagtron Swagboard is one of the best known electric longboards around today. It’s built a reputation for being a fast, fun skateboard that doesn’t break the bank.
We’ve reviewed a lot of other Swagtron products here on AltRiders, such as the Swagtron Swagger electric scooter and all of the reviews have very similar themes. Swagtron tend to make very well priced, feature heavy products that would normally cost a lot more. They sometimes have problems with build quality, but that’s a tradeoff you’d expect to make for the reduced price.
The Swagboard is no different. It has a maple wood deck with a premium grip tape that gives riders a lot of traction whilst riding. The board feels strong and sturdy and we’d expect the wood to be able to withstand quite a beating. The board can support riders up to 176 lbs.
For the electronic side of this motorised skateboard, the Swagboard features a 24V Li-on FE battery and Swagtron say it has a battery management system that allows for greater management of the battery for improved energy efficiency. This can help it reach a top speed of 11 mph and up to 10 miles on a single charge. These stats are pretty good, but in practice you’ll be getting a lot less than 10 miles on a single charge, expect around 5 miles.
The Swagboard is controlled by a wireless LED remote that can control the speed, braking and even the built in cruise control. The remote also shows the speed and the battery status so you can keep track of everything you need right in the palm of your hand.
Other features include:
- A SentryShield battery technology to help keep your batteries and you safe from damage.
- Two ergonomic grips built into the board
- An included wrist strap on the remote control so you never lose it
Overall, the Swagboard is a good start to our list. It’s generally sold for much less than $300 and you’ll sometimes be able to pick it up for less than $200. If they managed to fix some of the battery range issues then we think that the Swagboard could be one of the best electric longboards on the list, but right now it falls just behind. Still a good board and worth your money, as it’s so cheap, but there are better out there.

9. Blitzart X-Plore
Blitzart make a range of very good mid-budget electric skateboards and longboards. Multiple will feature on this list but we’ll start with the X-Plore electric longboard.
This is a good looking longboard with a deck length of 38 inches. It has an interesting design with the deck being wider in the middle, with two cut out carry handles. The deck itself is made from a combination of maple wood and bamboo with a premium grip tape. The maple is 7-ply with 2 additional layers of bamboo on the bottom of the board. The grip tape is good and comfortably allows you keep traction whilst riding. The board can support a maximum weight of 250 lbs.
The X-Plore uses a 350 W hub motor and a 36 V 4 Ah Lithium ion battery pack that can be charged within 2 and a half hours. This gives the Blitzart X-Plore a top speed of up to 17 mph and a range of around 10 miles. The top speed is very dependant on the rider weight, the conditions that you’re riding in and terrain that you’re riding over, if all of these are ideal then you’ll just about hit the 17 mph mark, but we’d recommend expecting lower. This is the same with the range, expect a bit lower than the 10 miles they recommend.
The X-Plore is controlled with an ergonomic wireless remote that controls the acceleration and deceleration with reverse capability. Two speed modes for beginners and advanced riders. The remote is where a lot of people have problems as it has a tendency to disconnect. We’d suggest making sure the battery for the remote and the board are full before taking this for a spin.
Other features include:
- Ships fully assembled and ready to ride so no messing around trying to assemble it
- Included wrist strap for the remote
- Use it like a regular skateboard due to the hub motors
- Regenerative braking included which helps top up the batteries when you brake
Overall, the Blitzart X-Plore is a great electric longboard that has a few teething problems. But these are easily fixed if you keep your batteries topped up and don’t take it out for too long. The stats and features are fantastic and if you do manage to get it up towards the top speed you’ll be in for a treat. At around 20 – 30 dollars less than our budget, this is a great value board and one we’d highly recommend.

8. Liftboard Single Motor
Next on our list is the Liftboard Single Motor. This is a striking looking electric longboard that has a length of 39 inches. It’s made from a 7-ply maple wood which keeps it fairly light but also strong. It has a maximum rider weight of 265 lbs.
It uses a belt driven motor. The motor is rated at 900 Watts, which gives you a lot of power. Our only slight grip with the motor is that it is a belt driven motor and not a hub motor. Belt ones tend to be a little more hassle as the belt can snap or come loose. The motor is powered by an 8.6Ah 21.6V lithium ion battery that has a charge time of around 4 hours. This battery has over twice the capacity of the Blitzart X-Plore!
All these features add up to give a top speed of around 16 mph and a range of about 16 miles. Whilst these do depend on certain conditions and the riders weight, the Liftboard seems to perform better than the Blitzart and more consistently reaches speeds and ranges near what you’d expect. It’s also quite good at climbing hills thanks to its 900W motor and can climb grades of up to 15 degrees.
Other features include:
- Built in handle grip for convenient carrying
- Wireless remote controls speed for easy handling
Overall, the Liftboard Single Motor looks great and has the performance to match. The 900W motor is the standout and really helps the acceleration and top speed feel impressive. This longboard comes in at around 20 – 30 dollars less than our budget as you’ll even have some money spare to grab some safety gear or accessories.

7. Maxfind Max C Waterproof Electric Skateboard
The Maxfind Waterproof Electric Skateboard started life as an IndieGoGo campaign and is a first of its kind. It’s an IP65 waterproof rated electric skateboard which means that it is completely splash resistant. We wouldn’t recommend submerging it in water as that is likely to destroy it but if you’re riding through puddles or in a bit of rain then you have nothing to worry about.
Not only this but the Max C is a super lightweight and portable electric skateboard. It only weighs 7.7lbs including the battery, which means it is easy to pick up and carry around at school, work, and home without finger soreness. We recommend smaller boards as a great commuting vehicle, especially if you live somewhere with hill. You can drastically cut the time of one leg of your commute by simply letting gravity do all the work. Also the small size of these boards means that you can easily store them when you get to wherever it is you’re going.
The board is powered by a 500W hub motor and uses a 36V, 2.2 Ah litium ion battery to get to a max speed of around 12 mph. The battery charges fully in 80 minutes
Other features include:
- LED headlights and taillights for night riding
- Max weight of 160 lbs
- Can climb hills up to 15%
Overall, this is a relatively successful little IndieGoGo project. The board is build well and feels really fast despite only having a 12 mph top speed. The 500W motor really does help you get up hills and the waterproof design is just the icing on the cake so you no longer have to worry about rain or puddles. It’s also about $50 within budget so you have a bit left over.

6. Alouette Phoenix Ryders
The Phoenix Ryders electric longboard is our first dual motor board that we’ve reviewed. This motorised longboard uses an 83mm Brushless Hub Dual-motor each of 350W. This means that you can comfortably reach a top speed of around 12 mph. The Phoenix Ryders is powered by a 4.4 Ah, 29.4V lithium battery that has enough juice for the board to get about 12 miles max range. The dual motors also help the board to climb at angles up to and including 15 degrees.
The deck of the board is made from 6 layers of Canadian maple and a single layer of bamboo. This creates a nice strong board, with a hint of flexibility to help with control of comfort. The board can hold riders of up to 220 lbs and even with heavier riders it can still reach the top speed and range.
The wireless remote has a few features, including the ability to adjust the speed, change direction and brake.
Other features include:
- Quick battery charge time of under 2 hours and over 500 battery recharge cycles
- 32 inches long
- 51 mm, 80A wear resistant PU wheels
Overall, the Phoenix Ryders is a very good board. The dual motors really help pull it through and keep the performance up there with what the manufacturers claim. It’s also a good looking board, that’s been well made a easy to use. It’s going to cost pretty much all of the $300 budget but we think that it’s well worth it.

5. Maverix Dawn of Justice
The Dawn of Justice version of the Maverix USA Urban Spirit takes everything that the base model had and finishes it with a very nice, high quality Batman vs Superman deck.
The first thing you’ll notice about this skateboard (apart from the deck art) is that it has quite a big undercarriage. This is because it houses a 400W motor that can easily help you reach around 14 mph top speed. This is also where the battery is stored and you’ll be getting around 10 miles maximum range on a single charge.
Other features include:
- Simple to use, trigger activated 3 speed remote. This allows easy control and gives a comfortable grip.
- Smooth ABS braking
The thing we like the best about this board is the artwork. If you’re a DC fan then this could be the ideal board for you. Not only does it look great, but it also performs pretty well. The controller is simple and easy to use, the motor gets the board up to speed pretty quick, even if you’re a heavier rider and the battery lasts a while. We do wish it charged faster as you’ll be expecting a charging time to full of around 5 – 8 hours, which is considerably more than some of the other boards we’ve mentioned here. Overall, it’s a good little board that could be perfect for you because of the great artwork and solid performance.
We just wish there was a bit more concise information online, this was one of the hardest boards to research as there was no paperwork and very little information available.

4. Acton Blink Lite V2
The Acton Blink Lite V2 is a perfect mini electric skateboard for kids and teens. It’s designed to be a fun and playful electric skateboard that is perfect for riding around town and school. The entire board weighs 7.7 lbs and can hold a maximum rider weight of 130 lbs. This means that it is officially the world’s lightest electric skateboard that’s aimed at teens and kids. This makes it perfect to able to carry around with you and makes a great commuting to school or college skateboard.
The Blink Lite V2 uses a 250 W hub motor that is powered by a 25.5V 2.2Ah battery. This means you will get about 5 miles range from it and a top speed of around 10 mph. Not the greatest stats on the list but it is one of the smallest and it is the lightest skateboard we’ve featured.
It’s controlled by a bluetooth remote control which is super simple to use and allows the rider to go forward or backwards with just the push or a lever.
Other features include:
- LED safety lights that are built into the frame of the board. These make the rider highly visible to traffic, pedestrians and even at night.
- Can fully recharge in less than 2 hours
- Great braking system
Overall, the Acton BLink V2 is a perfect motorized skateboard if you’re looking for quick and fun commutes or just want something to ride around town on. It’s a lot of fun, is packed with features and is super portable. It’s so easy to just to throw it in a backpack as you go into class or a shop. Also the Blink V2 is much less than our total budget so you’ll have plenty of change left over.

3. Blitzart Huracane
At number 3 we have another longboard from Blitzart. This time it’s their Huracane model. The Huracane, X-Plore and later you’ll see the Tornado are all very similar board but with some key differences. They all have different shaped boards, slightly different stats and different aggregated reviews.
The Huracane is your classic longboard, coming in at 38 inches long. It has a much more square design with sharper edges and less smooth corners. The deck itself is made from a combination of maple wood and bamboo with a premium grip tape. The maple is 7-ply with 2 additional layers of bamboo on the bottom of the board to give extra strength. The grip tape allows you keep traction whilst riding. The board can support a maximum weight of 250 lbs.
The Huracane uses the same 350 W hub motor that the X-Plore uses and a similar 36 V 4 Ah Lithium ion battery pack that can be charged within 2 and a half hours. This gives the Blitzart Huracane a top speed of 17+ mph and a range of over 10 miles. Both of these factors are very dependant on the rider weight, the conditions that you’re riding in and terrain that you’re riding over. We’ve found the the Huracane performs slightly better than the X-Plore when you increase the rider weight. It’s for this reason it is higher up the list.
Like the X-Plore, the Huracane is controlled with an ergonomic wireless remote that controls the acceleration and deceleration with reverse capability. It has two speed modes for beginners and advanced riders which means that it is a great entry level board.
Other features include:
- Ships fully assembled and ready to ride so no messing around trying to assemble it
- Polyuretheane wheels for extra durability
- Use it like a regular skateboard due to the hub motors
- Very quiet ride
- Regenerative braking included which helps top up the batteries when you brake
A lot of the good and bad features of the X-Plore are also present in the Huracane. You get a very similar performing board but one that looks very different and feels different to ride. We think that this performs better and is a more comfortable and controllable experience. It’s also priced similarly to the X-Plore, being roughly 30 dollars within our budget.

2. Urban Portable Mini Electric Skateboard
Everything that we previously mentioned about the Acton Blink V2 is magnified (or should we say minified?) with the Urban Portable Mini Electric Skateboard. This is a tiny skateboard, weighing only 7 lbs and being only 17 inches long. This means it will fit in almost any backpack or duffle bag and is super easy to transport and store. It’s 52.8 WH lithium battery is even FAA approved allowing riders to now travel onboard any aircraft with their board as a carry on.
The Urban has only a 150W motor but it is still able to get around 12 mph as its top speed. It also has a high tech battery construction that can take you up to 7-10 miles on a single charge with a charging time of only 1 hour.
The Urban isn’t just for kids either, the Canadian maple deck has superior strength in comparison to other boards easily suiting riders up to 250 lbs. It also has shock absorbing PU wheels will get you to high speeds no matter the terrain. They’ve also used bearings that help keep the wheels rolling endlessly.
Other features include:
- Quick connect controller
- 3 speed modes to accommodate every type of rider
- 100-day unconditional guarantee and 1 year warranty
Overall, the Urban Portable Mini Electric Skateboard is one of the best electric skateboards we could find for under $300. It’s portability is the best around and it even has a performance that isn’t compromised because of its small size. Despite the claim of it being able to suit riders up to 250 lbs, we don’t think you can realistically expect to get the same speed and range numbers from the board as someone who weight 150 lbs would. All of this is available for 50 dollars less than our budget!

1. Blitzart Tornado
At number 1 is the third entry from Blitzart, the Blitzart Tornado. This is very similar to the previously mentioned Haracane except it has a much smoother and more rounded deck style. One that we greatly prefer.
Just like the Huracane, the Tornado is your classic longboard, coming in at 38 inches long. The deck itself is made from a combination of maple wood and bamboo with a premium grip tape. The maple is 7-ply with 2 additional layers of bamboo on the bottom and top of the board to give extra strength and durability. The grip tape allows you keep traction whilst riding. The board can support a maximum weight of 250 lbs.
It also comes in a variety of different colors so you can choose the exact style that you like the best.
The Tornado uses the same 350 W hub motor that the X-Plore and the Huracane uses and a similar 36V 4Ah Lithium ion battery pack that can also be charged within 2 and a half hours. This gives the Blitzart Tornado a top speed of well over 17 mph and a range of over 10 miles. Like with all the e-skateboards today, both of these factors are very dependant on the rider weight, the conditions that you’re riding in and terrain that you’re riding over.
We really liked how the Tornado felt, despite the small differences from the Huracane and X-Plore. It weighs a little less and that difference helps with the stability and control, giving a much more responsive feedback.
Other features include:
- Ships fully assembled and ready to ride so no messing around trying to assemble it
- Polyuretheane wheels for extra durability
- Use it like a regular skateboard due to the hub motors
- Regenerative braking included which helps top up the batteries when you brake
- Quiet ride due to the hub motors and PU wheels
Overall, the Blitzart Tornado just takes our first place spot because of the slight advantages and personal preferences it has over the other models. The first place position could have been give to many of the boards on the list, with the Urban being a very, very close second. The reason we ended giving it to the Tornado is that its a more versatile board and will likely be a better choice for more people. But whichever electric skateboard you end up buying from the list, they’ll all be worth it.

Are Cheap Electric Skateboards Worth it?
From a fun perspective, yes! Even if they don’t completely live up to your expectations as a product, you’ll still have a lot of fun on them. Some can go at quite high top speeds, and when you’re slo close to the ground with nothing to hold on to, there’s nothing quite as exhilarating. Especially when you start getting good and begin to master the controls, this is when the fun really ramps up.
If you’re new to electric skateboards, or are a completely beginner skateboards in general we do think that a cheap electric skateboard such as the ones that we’ve reviewed today can be a good purchase. Some of them tend to be a bit hit or miss as to whether you get one that performs as desired, but if you do then you’ll be in for a great time.
Should you buy at this price point, go cheaper, or more expensive? That depends a lot on your personal circumstances, if you’re able to fork out up to or over $1000 then we’d definitely say spend that much as by far the best electric skateboards are being sold for around or more than $1000. If not, then it will depend on how much you think you’ll use it compared to the price. We think that around the 200 – 300 dollar price range does have some great boards and there’s a few that are absolutely perfect for beginners, or if you’re on a budget and want a cheap electric skateboard. For example, any of the top 5 will be perfect. I personally love the Acton Blink Lite V2 and the Blitzart Tornado. Both great boards at great prices.
Safety Gear
Skateboarding and electric skateboarding involves a wooden plank with wheels reaching potentially very high speeds with the possibility of performing tricks on streets and park elements. It doesn’t matter if you are an experienced rider or a novice learning the basics; sooner or later, you’re going to fall.
Safety gear is there to protect those vital points when the inevitable happens.
Helmets
It’s important to wear a properly fitted helmet to protect your head from slamming against the ground or walls. This is the most important piece of safety equipment and we highly recommend you use one.
